Malysz e Dabrowski terminam em Segundo e Quarto na Baja da Polónia

The five-car Overdrive Racing team endured mixed fortunes at Baja Poland, round eight of the 2014 FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies, which finished in Szczecin Bezrzecze on Sunday.

 The Team Orlen duo of Adam Malysz and Rafal Marton led the way over the finish ramp with a solid second position in the first of the five Belgian-run Toyota Hiluxes behind Polish event winner Krzysztof Holowczyc.

 Marek Dabrowski and Jacek Czachor were classified fourth in the second Team Orlen car. Dutchman Bernhard Ten Brinke and Belgian co-driver Tom Colsoul made a solid start to their pre-Dakar preparations and held fifth place before retiring after leaving the track on the fourth stage.

 There was disappointment for Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and his French co-driver Matthieu Baumel. They led after the Prologue before collecting a puncture and then damaging the Toyota’s suspension on the second run through the Poligon Drawski stage. The retirement was a set back to Al-Attiyah’s chances of winning the FIA World Cup for the second time.

 Renowned Polish enduro rider Tadeusz ‘Taddy’ Blażusiak was running well inside the top 10 on his car debut, but he and French navigator Edouard Boulanger were forced out of the reckoning on the same stage after rolling their Toyota.

  “This was a good result for Adam with a podium and for Marek, but a disappointing one for Nasser, Bernhard and Taddy,” said Overdrive Racing’s team director Jean-Marc Fortin, who runs the Toyota Hilux programme in Europe in collaboration with Hallspeed of South Africa. “That is rallying. The weather conditions made the stage surfaces slippery and very difficult.”

 The competitive action got underway with an eight-kilometre Prologue stage and Al-Attiyah drew first blood for the Overdrive Racing team by setting the fastest time of 6min 42.6sec to move into a comfortable 17-second lead. Dabrowski and Malysz were fourth and fifth, Ten Brinke was eighth on his Toyota debut and Blazusiak crossed the line in 10th, despite the wet conditions.

  “The stage was a good warm up for the longer ones,” said Al-Attiyah. “There were lots of deep ruts, so I tried to be cautious, especially in the corners.”

 The first of two runs through the 192km Poligon Drawski selective section was on the agenda on Saturday morning and Holowczyc recorded the fastest time and moved 1min 40sec in front of Al-Attiyah in the overall rankings after the Qatari was forced to stop and change a puncture. Malysz and Dabrowski climbed to third and fourth overall. The sixth quickest time pushed Ten Brinke into a similar position in the general classification and Blazusiak was an impressive eighth on his debut in a car.

 Holowczyc was quickest on the re-run of the stage and headed into the overnight halt with a lead of 4min 48.9sec over Malysz after Al-Attiyah had damaged his Toyota’s suspension and retired. Dabrowski and Ten Brinke finished the day in fourth and fifth overall, but Blazusiak rolled his Hilux out of contention.

  “It was incredibly tough out there,” admitted Malysz. “We had a front diff failure and had to drive for 10km with just two-wheel drive.”

 Action continued on Sunday with two planned runs through the 65km Dobra selective section and Holowczyc closed in on victory by setting the second fastest time, despite heavy rain and muddy, slippery conditions.

 The Pole beat Malysz by 19 seconds and extended his advantage to 5min 07.9sec. FIA World Cup leader Vladimir Vasilyev crashed out of the top 10 and a points-scoring finish and this kept the door open for Al-Attiyah to maintain his title challenge on the remaining two rounds of the series in Morocco and Portugal. Dabrowski retained fourth with the fourth quickest time.

 The final stage was cancelled because of the adverse weather conditions and Malysz and Dabrowski reached the finish in second and fourth overall.

Monster Energy X-raid Team wins Baja Poland

• Krzysztof Holowczyc wins his home event at the wheel of his MINI ALL4 Racing

In the 2014 edition of the Baja Poland, MINI ALL4 Racing driver and local hero Krzysztof Holowczyc – supported by his new navigator Xavier Panseri (FRA) – raced in a class of his own. In the end, he won the four-stage event with a five-minute lead over Adam Malysz. His compatriot Martin Kaczmarski and co-driver Tapio Suominen from Finland completed the podium, with German pairing Stephan Schott / Holm Schmidt finishing eighth. Nonetheless, the result in the Baja Poland caused mixed emotions at X-raid as World Cup leader Vladimir Vasilyev hit a tree in special stage four, with just a few more kilometres to go. Due to this incident he lost a lot of time and finished 22nd, in the end. Nonetheless, the Russian defended his FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies lead as his toughest rival in the battle for the title, Nasser Al-Attiyah, also had to leave Poland empty-handed. Due to heavy rain in the night from Saturday to Sunday, the race control opted for cancelling the second Sunday stage for safety reasons, following the day’s first 65-kilometre stage, held in the morning.

 Holowczyc really went for it in his home race. Only in the prologue, the Pole opted for a slightly conservative approach and contented himself with finishing second – to win the following two stages. In SS3, the Monster Energy X-raid Team driver had to draw aside due to accident ambulances that attended to a quad rider who had had an accident. Behind him, the special stage was temporarily red-flagged. So, he crossed the finish line some 90 minutes earlier than the rest of the field. And in the final special stage, Holowczyc finished third. Meanwhile, his compatriot Kaczmarski also delivered in fine style and by finishing third, he repeated the result he had secured in the Baja Aragon. The young Pole took his MINI ALL4 Racing to the top five in every stage. By coming eighth, Schott was the third X-raid driver in the top 10, thus completed the Trebur based team’s success. Schott had his difficulties in the first two stages but worked his way up in the standings by finishing eighth and twelfth in the final two stages.

“Krzysztof, Martin and Stephan, too, did a really good job,” said Team Manager Sven Quandt. “At the same time, it was really disappointing that Vladimir hit a tree just in the final special stage. Nasser had been forced into retirement yesterday and so, we could have increased our lead. But Vladimir must forget this incident, now. After all, he still holds a 56-point lead in the World Cup standings.”

“I’m really delighted with having won in my home country,” said Holowczyc. “Altogether, it was a very exciting Baja. I was careful in the prologue but could take the lead in special stage one. In the following stage I had to draw aside for fire fighters and ambulances that looked after a quad driver who had had an accident. And the final special stage represented a real challenge. It was extremely slippery and you had to be focused to the max to not miss a turning. Fortunately, this happened to me just once.”

Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras é campeã do Rally dos Sertões 2014

Ao lado de Youssef Haddad, Guiga Spinelli alcança seu quinto título na competição; Franciosi e Capoani vencem na categoria Protótipos T1 e são os mais rápidos entre os carros nacionais 

Depois de sete dias e mais de 2600 km rodados, o Rally dos Sertões chegou a Belo Horizonte. Enfrentando uma etapa com pouca quilometragem, mas com muitos desafios, a dupla Guilherme Spinelli e Youssef Haddad conseguiu mais uma título no maior rali do Brasil, e mais uma conquista para a Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras.

"Mais um título! Fizemos por merecer o rali inteiro. O ASX Racing esteve impecável, o Youssef fez uma navegação sem erros e a equipe trabalhou muito bem. É merecido o resultado. Agora é aproveitar a festa", comemora Guiga, que é o maior vencedor do maior rali do Brasil, com cinco títulos. 

Para o piloto, a conquista do pentacampeonato foi uma das mais emocionantes de sua carreira. "Vou guardar na lembrança a disputa, que foi a parte mais bacana do rali. Estivemos andando com um ritmo muito próximo e é isso que vai ficar guardado na memória", completa.

 A dupla se manteve na liderança na classificação geral desde a segunda etapa da competição, terminando com o tempo de 17h06min43s."Fizemos um bom trabalho dentro da pista. Passamos por muitos desafios, mas fizemos tudo certo e colhemos os resultados", Youssef, que conquistou seu terceiro título.

  Franciosi e Capoani são os melhores entre os carros nacionais

A dupla João Franciosi e Rafael Capoani fez mais uma boa prova e conquistou o título da categoria Protótipos T1. "Foi uma prova muito difícil e dura, mas valeu para o esforço! Alcançamos nosso objetivo e não tenho palavras para descrever a sensação", se emociona Franciosi.

 A bordo da L200 Triton SR preparada pela Ralliart Brasil, divisão de alta performance da Mitsubishi Motors Brasil, o piloto e o navegador terminaram o rali com o tempo de 18h26min40s, garantindo o quarto lugar na classificação geral. "Ser a dupla mais rápida entre os carros nacionais e quarta entre todos os competidores é um sonho que se torna realidade", festeja Capoani.

 A Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras se despede do Rally dos Sertões 2014 já pensando no próximo desafio: o Rally do Marrocos, que começa no dia 3 de outubro. "Agora é hora de comemorar, mas não podemos esquecer que teremos outras competições importantes. O nosso trabalho não acaba por aqui", finaliza Guiga.

RUBEN FARIA COM 4º POSTO NO FECHO DOS SERTÕES

Ruben Faria fechou hoje em Belo Horizonte a sua participação no Rally dos Sertões 2014. Aos comandos da sua KTM 450 Rally oficial o piloto de Olhão conseguiu na derradeira etapa da prova um brilhante quarto posto, demonstrando toda a sua reconhecida rapidez e ascendendo mesmo ao oitavo posto final na classificação geral da prova, posição que nem mesmo uma penalização de 13 minutos retirou ao algarvio. 

Hoje os pilotos cumpriram um derradeiro sector selectivo com pouco menos de 126 quilómetros, derradeira especial onde Faria assinou o quarto posto a cerca de 3 minutos e minutos e meio do piloto mais rápido, fechando o rally em oitavo (seria sexto sem os 13 minutos de penalização).

  ‘Foi uma excelente forma de fechar o rally. Hoje saí mais atrasado que em dias anteriores depois da posição menos positiva de ontem e ataquei desde o início. Rapidamente passei outros pilotos e imprimi um ritmo forte mas sem exagerar. Tal como na Sardenha fecho de forma positiva esta prova e foi pena os 13 minutos de penalização, pois seria o sexto classificado. Globalmente faço um balanço positivo da prova, no ano passado abandonei devido a uma queda e este ano consegui chegar ao final o que é sempre muito bom. Agora é tempo de começar a pensar no Rally de Marrocos, a última prova do campeonato do mundo, onde me sinto mais à vontade que nas pistas estreitas aqui do Brasil.’

 Ruben Faria cumpre assim a totalidade dos seus objectivos neste Rally dos Sertões 2014, quinta prova do campeonato do mundo que foi ganha pelo colega de equipa do algarvio, o espanhol Marc Coma. A derradeira prova do campeonato realiza-se em Marrocos entre os dias 3 e 9 de Outubro.

Hélder Rodrigues termina Sertões no 4º lugar

Piloto português não participava na prova brasileira desde 2009 

Hélder Rodrigues, aos comandos da sua Honda CRF450 Rally completou hoje, com um 4º lugar absoluto, a sua participação no Rali dos Sertões, prova brasileira pontuável para o Campeonato do Mundo de Todo-o-Terreno e que hoje terminou em Belo Horizonte depois de disputado o derradeiro sector selectivo que tinha uma extensão de 125,88 quilómetros.

 Nesta derradeira etapa o piloto oficial do construtor japonês Honda, apoiado pela Red Bull e MEO, gastou 1h38m40s realizando o 5º melhor tempo.

“Estou feliz por ter terminado este rali que já não fazia desde 2009. Acho que fiz uma boa corrida. Houve dias em que podia ter andado mais rápido, mas esta corrida é um pouco perigosa e não posso arriscar tudo nestas provas. A moto portou-se muito bem e a equipa também. Acho que estamos todos de parabéns e agora só falta atacar no Dakar”, referiu Hélder Rodrigues à chegada a Belo Horizonte, no final da corrida.

Paulo Gonçalves foi o piloto mais vitorioso no Rally dos Sertões

Campeão do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno terminou em segundo e está agora a dez pontos da renovação do título 

Paulo Gonçalves encerrou hoje a edição de 2014 do Rally dos Sertões, penúltima prova do Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno, com mais uma vitória em etapas, a quarta das sete disputadas.

 O piloto português, Campeão do Mundo em título, foi o piloto mais vitorioso, com cinco de oito dias liderados, incluindo o Prólogo, mas no final acabou por ser o segundo classificado da geral a 3m23s do espanhol Marc Coma.

 Vencedor da última etapa, Paulo Gonçalves abriu a “especial” de 125,88 quilómetros cronometrados sem nunca perder o comando, ganhando 1m14s a Marc Coma, segundo classificado na frente do brasileiro Jean Azevedo.

  “Terminou mais um rali, nesta edição dos Sertões 2014 foram oito dias de corrida, eu venci cinco, tenho de estar contente com o meu desempenho e com o desempenho da equipa HRC, acho que estamos todos fizemos um trabalho extraordinário. A única coisa que faltou mesmo foi a vitória final, faltou uma ‘pontinha’ de sorte”, comentou o piloto oficial Honda.

 Com o segundo lugar final no Rally dos Sertões, Paulo Gonçalves altera de sete para dez os pontos de desvantagem frente a Marc Coma na luta pelo título de 2014, prémio que só será entregue no início de Outubro em Marrocos.

  “É motivador saber que estamos competitivos a este nível, termos ganho mais de metade das etapas deste rali. Em termos de Campeonato do Mundo as coisas estão um bocadinho mais difíceis, temos dez pontos a separar-nos, todavia falta Marrocos para disputar e é preciso terminar Marrocos para encontrar o Campeão do Mundo de 2014”, concluiu.

 O Rali de Marrocos decorrerá entre os próximos dias 3 e 9 de Outubro.

Marc Coma vence Rally dos Sertões

Red Bull KTM’s Marc Coma on Saturday won the Rally dos Sertoes in Brazil by a margin of three minutes 23 second after seven hard fought stages. The win consolidates Coma’s lead in the FIM World Cross Country Rally Championship in the fifth of six rounds.

 Coma, a Red Bull athlete won the rally from Paolo Goncalves of Portugal while Brazilian rider Joan Azevedo took the minor podium place. Red KTM’s Spanish rider took three stage wins and led the overall standings from the end of Stage One to the finish.

 The rally was particularly tight but on Thursday Coma had finally edged ahead of Goncalves by a margin of seven minutes. He then had to open the track on the penultimate stage on Friday and his margin of lead dropped to four minutes. Friday, Coma said, was the key to the rally, a stage that required particular attention, as it was the second half of the marathon stage. At the end of Stage Six he said it had been important to control the race and deploy conservative tactics, because navigation was difficult.

 Coma finished second in the final stage but maintained the advantage in the overall standings, proving that conquering the event was not just about riding fast but also about riding smart.

 Marc Coma: “Today was a long had day, especially with the pressure of being in the lead. This is a very hard rally to win and the level of the riders is very high. Paolo (Goncalves) was pushing all the time so I’m very happy with the final results. I came into the rally with a lead of 10 points in the World Championship and it will be good to go to the final round in Morocco with a bigger cushion. Morocco is a very hard rally and we know that anything can happen there. It will be good to be going with confidence after this win.”

 Coma has only won the Rally dos Sertoes on one other occasion, in 2010.

 KTM factory rider and Coma’s teammate Jordi Viladoms of Spain rode a solid rally to finish fifth overall, some 26 minutes 37 off the winning pace. Britain’s Sam Sunderland, the factory team rookie finished sixth at 33.37, including a one-minute penalty. The third factory rider, Portugal’s Ruben Faria was eighth overall trailing by 46.36, including a 13-minute penalty and finished on a high note with a fourth place in the final stage. French KTM rider David Casteu finished ninth overall to give KTM five in the top 10 finishers.

Paulo Gonçalves termina os Sertões em segundo após nova vitória na última etapa

Paulo Goncalves and Team HRC put in yet another fine performance, in this, the fifth race of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship held in Brazil. The Rally dos Sertoes ended with a victory for the Honda CRF450 RALLY rider, who has won five of the eight specials disputed.

 It was good work all round in the Brazilian Rally dos Sertoes from Team HRC, as Paulo Goncalves – last year’s winner- took second place, in a competition in which he waged a constant daily battle for each stage, always making life difficult for the eventual winner.

 The seventh and final stage of the Rally dos Sertoes was held between Diamantina and Belo Horizonte, with an initial link of just over 54 kilometres. The route of the 125 kilometre special took in rutted tracks, several river crossings, and a fair share of pot-holes. There was even a bit of trial as the route zigzagged its way up a hillside, before straightening out into faster stretches. The arrival in Belo Horizonte, the capital of the Minas Gerais region brings the twentieth edition of the Rally dos Sertoes to a close.

 Paulo ‘Speedy’ Goncalves began the final day in search of victory, perhaps recalling last year’s editon in which he took the title. The rider set a cracking pace and once again, won the special, his fifth win in this Sertoes (four stages and the prologue), proving that both he, and the Honda CRF450 RALLY, are once again, highly competitive.

 Team HRC team-mate Helder Rodrigues finished in a respectable fourth place, after local boy Jean Azevedo, from Honda Brazil, had spent a week demonstrating his competitiveness and succeeded in pipping his Honda rival to the third podium place.

 Next event for Team HRC will be the Rally OiLibya Maroc, held in Morocco from 3rd to 9th October.

Paulo Gonçalves: The Sertoes 2014 is over. I won five stages and I’m very happy with the work that Team HRC and I have done: we’ve done a great job. I wasn’t able to win the race, as Marc [Coma] has performed at a high level, but we will keep fighting in the future. We’ve got one more race to go in Morocco, and we’ll see who becomes the new champion . I will continue to work hard to achieve this.

Gonçalves alcança a quarta vitória em etapas

It was another day of triumph for Paulo Goncalves in the Rally Dos Sertoes, which saw the Team HRC rider very focused on achieving victory in the final part of the race. Helder Rodrigues finished the stage in sixth place.

 With just one stage remaining in the Rally Dos Sertoes –the fifth race so far in the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship- reigning champion Paulo Goncalves continues to fight nail and tooth in each stage to hold on to his position as world’s number one.

 Today’s stage was without the usual link, which meant that the bikes were against the clock from the minute that they headed out of the parc fermé. The stage passed first along an old railway line full of loose rocks requiring a lot of demanding navigation. It was then on to a very fast section needing special attention to the speed controls lining the course, before the route headed up some mountainous areas, along narrow rutted tracks, and passed through numerous fords.

 Today was another exhibition of the Portuguese rider’s handling skills, which has brought him four victories (three stage wins and the prologue) so far in the Brazilian race. But it proved to be far from easy. ‘Speedy’ set out to catch up with Jean Azevedo, from the Honda Brazil team, but found himself facing a wall of dust that made overtaking near impossible. In spite of this, Goncalves pushed hard and managed to whittle several minutes off the deficit with overall race leader Marc Coma, reducing his advantage to 4 minutes 36 seconds. Paulo will be aiming to win the Sertoes, and to do so, he will be battling every inch of the way, as he did in last year’s edition.

 Helder Rodrigues is aiming for a podium place, although he lost some time today in one of the race’s tougher sections; a stretch that proved difficult to reduce the gap with Jean Azevedo, who managed to finish the stage as runner-up. Helder was nevertheless, able to hold on to his fourth place in the overall standings. Tomorrow will get one more chance to attack for the podium.

Paulo Gonçalves: Today was a great special. I started from a good position and attacked right away. At kilometre 90 I caught up with Jean Azevedo. It was difficult to overtake him because of all the dust and it was very dangerous. I won the special and I closed the gap on Marc by two minutes, but winning the race will not be easy. There is a difference of four minutes, which is significant, but we have one more day of racing, and in a rally like this anything can happen. I’ll keep fighting until the end. I’m pleased that the CRF450 RALLY is working so perfectly, and it has proved its worth over every type of terrain. Team HRC has done a great job out here.

No segundo dia da etapa maratona do Rally dos Sertões, as duplas da Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras enfrentaram uma especial curta, de apenas 157 km, mas que não permitia erros. Finalizando a penúltima etapa, Guiga/Youssef seguem líderes na geral e Franciosi/Capoani, em quarto, lideram a categoria Protótipos T1.

"O dia foi curto, comparado aos dois últimos, mas bem exigente, com trajeto estreito que não admitia erros. Tivemos um resultado dentro do planejado para hoje", afirma Guiga Spinelli, que, a bordo do ASX Racing, terminou a prova em 2h34min00s, terceiro melhor tempo do dia.

 O trajeto foi em laço, com largada e chegada em Diamantina, marcado por estradas de alta e média velocidade, além de trechos de subida de serra, com muitas curvas erosões, pedras, travessia de rios e um visual fantástico.

  "Foi uma etapa pequena, mas muito dura. Região de serra, com muitas pedras e muitas referências de atenção na planilha, por isso viemos fazendo uma prova cautelosa", explica o navegador Rafael Capoani que, ao lado do piloto João Franciosi, continua na liderança da categoria Protótipos T1. "Vamos manter a concentração máxima. Não costumamos tirar o pé e vamos rumo a Belo Horizonte buscando o título", completa o navegador.

 Ontem e hoje as duplas fizeram a etapa maratona - duas especiais entre as quais não há apoio da equipe de engenheiros e mecânicos. Os pilotos e navegadores têm apenas meia hora antes de largar para fazer alguns ajustes com as peças que levam no veículo. "O carro foi perfeito. O ASX Racing está excelente, estamos fazendo um rali sem nenhum tipo de problema. Aos poucos, fomos descobrindo uma configuração melhor e estamos confiantes que o carro está realmente competitivo", conta Guiga.

 O piloto João Franciosi também está satisfeito com o desempenho de sua L200 Triton SR. "Foi um dia legal para nós, andamos poupando um pouco mais o carro já que viemos da etapa maratona e não tivemos nenhum problema. Completamos a prova e continuamos com a mesma estratégia para amanhã", conta ele, que teve uma torcida especial nesta sexta-feira: a família completa do piloto já está acompanhando a prova, inclusive sua bebê de apenas quatro meses.

  Última etapa

Pela primeira vez nos 22 anos do Rally dos Sertões, Belo Horizonte receberá a chegada da competição. O local escolhido é a Praça Geralda Damata Pimentel, em frente à Lagoa da Pampulha e próxima à Igreja de São Francisco de Assis, um dos principais cartões-postais da cidade.

 Na liderança do rali desde a segunda etapa, Guiga e Youssef não perdem a concentração. "Vamos manter o foco total, tanto na revisão do carro quanto como dupla, já que não há nada decidido", ressalta Guiga.

 Para o Youssef, a etapa de amanhã deve ser tradada como qualquer outra. "Terei a mesma dedicação e atenção no estudo na planilha como nos dias anteriores. Amanhã é mais um dia de rali, que será encarado com total seriedade", completa.

  30/08 - 7ª etapa - Diamantina (MG) / Belo Horizonte (MG) 

Depois da etapa Maratona, o último dia do Rally dos Sertões terá 327 quilômetros. A especial começa rápida com piso de cascalho, travessia de rio, estradas de piçarra com muitas lombas e mata-burros. A prova segue com um trecho de trial subindo e descendo uma serra. A parte final é mais rápida, porém muito sinuosa. O deslocamento final é por asfalto até a chegada em Belo Horizonte.

RUBEN FARIA COM DIA COMPLICADO

Não foi fácil o penúltimo dia do Rally dos Sertões para Ruben Faria. Na segunda metade da etapa-maratona o piloto de Olhão não teve um dia fácil e acabou mesmo por descer na classificação geral, ocupando agora o nono posto quando falta apenas mais uma etapa para terminar este Rally dos Sertões 2014. Com o sexto lugar na sua posse esta manhã no arranque para os 179 quilómetros da especial que começou e acabou em Diamantina, Faria acabou por não conseguir melhor que o 10º posto no dia, caindo três posições na tabela classificativa.

‘Não foi nada fácil este penúltimo dia de prova. A especial era muito rápida e mais uma vez chegar aos adversários era muito complicado com o pó que se levanta. Arrisquei um pouco na fase inicial mas como fizemos etapa maratona cedo percebi que não tinha o pneu traseiro nas melhores condições por estar já um pouco desgastado. Após duas saídas de pista optei por baixar o meu ritmo e nessa fase saí novamente de pista e fiquei preso num buraco. Nada de grave se fosse um dia mais longo, mas numa especial curta o tempo perdido no final acabou por me fazer baixar na classificação. Foi pena...mas as corridas são mesmo assim.’

 Ruben Faria espelhava a desilusão no final desta jornada, restando apenas uma etapa para fechar a prova a recuperação será quase impossível em condições normais, mas Ruben Faria não perde a esperança de pelo menos recuperar até Belo Horizonte algum do tempo que hoje perdeu.

‘A minha moto tem estado impecável e conto com ela para amanhã. O resultado está quase feito mas ainda posso ser oitavo. É isso que vou procurar atingir amanhã na chegada a Belo Horizonte.’
Amanhã os pilotos presentes no Rally dos Sertões enfrentam a derradeira etapa da prova, com partida de Diamantina e chegada a Belo Horizonte. Serão 337 quilómetros para percorrer, dos quais 126 serão cronometrados.

Paulo Gonçalves vence penúltima etapa e mantém luta pela vitória

Campeão do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno terá de dar o tudo por tudo e esperar deslize de Marc Coma no último dia 

Paulo Gonçalves venceu a sexta e penúltima etapa do Rally dos Sertões e manteve o segundo lugar da classificação geral provisória, agora a 4m36s do líder, o espanhol “rival” Marc Coma.

 Depois do terceiro lugar na etapa de ontem, a quinta da competição, o piloto português, Campeão do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno, largou em busca da vitória na etapa de hoje, conseguindo assim ser o mais rápido no troço cronometrado de 178,87 quilómetros em redor de Diamantina.

“Hoje foi uma boa "especial", arranquei numa posição favorável, ataquei bastante, sensivelmente ao km90 apanhei o Jean, havia muito pó e foi muito difícil aproximar-me dele. Não consegui passá-lo, acabei por vir no ritmo dele até ao final, consegui vencer a "especial" e recuperei algum tempo para o Marc. Para a corrida as coisas estão um bocadinho difíceis porque a diferença é significativa, são cerca de quatro minutos, mas a corrida só acaba amanhã na bandeira de xadrez”, disse.

 De partida para o último dia de prova no Brasil, Paulo Gonçalves abrirá novamente a pista e terá de dar o tudo por tudo para “fugir” à concorrência. A última etapa terá chegada inédita em Belo Horizonte, com um total de 336,96 quilómetros, dos quais 125,88 de trechos cronometrados.

Hélder Rodrigues em luta pelo pódio

Na penúltima etapa do Rali dos Sertões, que hoje se disputou com partida e chegada a Diamantina, Hélder Rodrigues, aos comandos da sua Honda CRF450 Rally, averbou o 6º tempo absoluto e manteve a 4ª posição da classificação geral desta prova brasileira pontuável para o Campeonato do Mundo de Todo-o-Terreno.

 O piloto oficial do construtor japonês Honda, apoiado pela Red Bull e MEO, gastou 2h28m24s para cumprir o sector selectivo que tinha uma extensão de 178,87 quilómetros.

“Hoje foi um dia bastante interessante de rali. A navegação não era muito difícil mas andávamos rápido. Tivemos um pouco de areia, um pouco de pedra, um pouco de montanha. Eu senti-me muito bem até ao km 140. Depois tivemos uma zona muito lenta com bastantes curvas e aí acho que perdi bastante tempo. Depois até ao final tentei atacar e manter-me na luta pelo pódio”, referiu Hélder Rodrigues à chegada a Diamantina, no final da etapa.

 Amanhã disputa-se a derradeira etapa do Rali dos Sertões, com partida de Diamantina e chegada a elo Horizonte. Os concorrentes irão ter pela frente um sector selectivo com uma extensão de 125,88 quilómetros.

Carros da Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras terminam o 1º dia da etapa maratona na frente

ASX Racing e L200 Triton SR completam especial dura e exigente sem problemas e prontos para largar amanhã 

No primeiro dia da etapa maratona do Rally dos Sertões 2014, o ASX Racing e a L200 Triton SR da Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras enfrentaram uma especial de 336 km, com muitas pedras e trechos de montanha . Mesmo com um trecho duro e desafiador, Guilherme Spinelli / Youssef Haddad e João Franciosi / Rafael Capoani, estão na liderança da classificação geral e da categoria Protótipos T1, respectivamente.

  "Largamos na especial com o objetivo de vir controlando o tempo do Reinaldo Varela / Gustavo Gugelmin, pois estávamos largando logo atrás deles. E conseguimos. Vínhamos monitorando e seguindo praticamente empatados até cerca de 20 km para o fim da especial, quando não conseguimos passar um UTV. Chamamos pelo rádio, usamos o aparelho de ultrapassagem e até acionamos a organização, mas não teve jeito. Ficamos em um ritmo mais lento e acabamos terminando três minutos atrás", comenta Guilherme Spinelli.

 Para a dupla, o ASX Racing teve dificuldades para ultrapassar UTV devido à ausência do Sentinel. "Esse aparelho avisa o veículo da frente se outros competidores estão se aproximando. Como ele não está funcionando, se o concorrente não usar o rádio, fica quase impossível ultrapassar", complementa Youssef. Eles completaram a especial de hoje em 4h28min09s, e terminaram o dia na liderança do Rally dos Sertões.

  "Devido à ausência do Sentinel, este ano está mais difícil de ultrapassar, o que não é bom", concorda Rafael Capoani, navegador da L200 Triton SR da Equipe. Ele e João Franciosi terminaram a 5ª etapa com o tempo de 04h47min10s, o melhor na categoria Protótipos T1. ´

Etapa maratona

A especial dessa quinta-feira também marcou o primeiro dia da etapa maratona, onde os veículos não poderão receber auxílio mecânico até amanhã de manhã. Uma caraterística que tornará o rali ainda mais emocionante. "O carro está em ordem. Já tínhamos previsto um desgaste maior de pneus por uma característica de piso e da quilometragem. Mas conseguimos resolver isso amanhã no parque fechado, onde esse tipo de acerto é permitido", adianta Youssef.

 "Por ser uma etapa de maratona, a especial foi muito dura. Muita pancada o tempo inteiro no carro. Procuramos chegar bem para largar sem problemas amanhã. Cumprimos nosso objetivo e mantivemos o primeiro lugar na categoria", conta o João Franciosi, que lidera na categoria Protótipos T1. Faltando duas etapas para o final do rali, a dupla mantém os pés no chão. "Vamos seguir em um ritmo seguro", completa.

29/08 - 6ª etapa - Diamantina (MG) / Diamantina (MG)

 O sexto dia será um laço nos arredores de Diamantina (MG) e começa sem deslocamento inicial, com a largada de dentro do parque fechado. A organização do Rally dos Sertões afirma que essa é uma das mais belas e completas especiais deste ano. Guiga / Youssef e Franciosi / Capoani seguirão por trechos estreitos de uma antiga ferrovia com muitas pedras, erosões e muita navegação. "Mesmo sendo uma etapa curta, será bastante dura e exigente", ressalta Capoani.

A prova fica mais rápida com estradas de média velocidade, até chegar a uma subida de serra, com muitas curvas erosões, pedras, travessia de rios e um visual fantástico.

4º lugar para Hélder Rodrigues em etapa muito dura

Hélder Rodrigues, aos comandos da sua Honda CRF450 Rally, voltou a ser hoje o 4º classificado em mais uma etapa dos Rally dos Sertões, no dia em que a prova brasileira pontuável para o Campeonato do Mundo de Todo-o-Terreno levou os concorrentes de San Francisco a Diamantina.

 O piloto oficial do construtor japonês Honda, apoiado pela Red Bull e MEO, enfrentou um sector selectivo de 335,98 quilómetros, considerado o mais duro deste rali.

“Foi o dia mais duro do rali. Um dia com muita pedra, trial, bastantes sítios com navegação. Tentei atacar ao máximo. No início não ia com um ritmo muito forte, mas depois consegui melhorar e manter o ritmo até ao fim, o que me permitiu fazer o 4º melhor tempo”, referiu Hélder Rodrigues à chegada a Diamantina, no final da etapa.

RUBEN FARIA EM SEXTO LUGAR NO DIA MAIS LONGO

A edição 2014 do Rally dos Sertões no Brasil cumpriu hoje a sua quinta etapa com ligação entre São Francisco e Diamantina, bem no coração do estado de Minas Gerais. Aos comandos da sua KTM Rally 450 Ruben Faria cumpriu a totalidade dos mais de 645 quilómetros da etapa, a mais longa da prova, com uma especial cronometrada a rondar os 336 quilómetros. No final de um longo dia o piloto de Olhão conseguiu a sexta posição na etapa, ocupando idêntica posição em termos de classificação geral da competição.

‘Foi mais um dia longo e muito semelhante ao de ontem. Zonas bastante rápidas, navegação e muita condução. Diverti-me bastante ao longo de todo o dia e sem cometer erros de navegação acabei por terminar na mesma posição em que partimos. É muito complicado conseguirmos anular diferenças em termos de tempo e isso mais uma vez ficou claro. Com o pó que se levanta nas pistas é muito complicado andar mais depressa. Por isso estou satisfeito e quero acima de tudo levar a minha prova até ao final.’

 A dureza dos Sertões foi evidente novamente neste quinto dia, depois de no dia de ontem cerca de 30% dos 112 veículos que alinharam à partida para a quarta etapa terem abandonado, devido a problemas mecânicos, quedas ou acidentes. Este Rally dos Sertões continua assim a revelar-se exigente e deverão verificar-se mais alguns abandonos entre os que hoje iniciaram a etapa rumo a Diamantina.

 Amanhã os pilotos enfrentam a penúltima etapa, com partida e chegada a Diamantina, num dia novamente curto, com pouco mais de 204 quilómetros dos quais cerca de 179 serão de especial cronometrada. Ruben Faria está sólido na sexta posição e apesar de continuar a pensar numa posição entre os cinco primeiros o objectivo principal continua a ser não correr riscos desnecessários rumo a Belo Horizonte, onde termina a prova no Sábado.

Team HRC supera a primeira parte da dura Etapa Maratona

Paulo Goncalves and Helder Rodrigues arrived back at the Diamantina camp, tired but satisfied, after having overcome the arduous first part of the Rally Dos Sertoes marathon stage.

 Paulo Goncalves keeps his options of winning the Rally dos Sertoes open, in spite of finishing third and conceding several minutes to the race leader. Helder Rodrigues is also in the running for a podium place in this fifth date of the World Championship.

 It was an enormously physical, demanding and complicated day as the Sertoes 2014, from the point of view of both the navigation and handling; on a day when a rock-filled five kilometre section of the course bore more resemblance to a trial more than a rally raid. This area was followed by some very fast stretches, as well as deep-rutted track, as the course wound through the eucalyptus plantations, requiring an extremely precise reading of the road-book in order to not get lost.

 Paulo Goncalves had it all the more complicated having to start out from the front after yesterday’s stage victory. The pace of the race subsequently slowed as the route took in more narrow, sinuous paths, after which came the crossing of the Jequitinhonha river, followed by a heavily damaged and pot-holed section as the race speeded through some of the rural villages on route to Diamantina. It was there that the parc fermé had been set up, and where the bikes are not allowed to be tampered with until the end of tomorrow’s stage, although as an extraordinary measure, the riders themselves (not the mechanics) are permitted to change the rear wheels. This measure was taken for safety reasons after the brutal punishment of the stage had left all the tyres practically without grip.

 Paulo was ahead of the pack for most of the race until a navigational setback saw him concede around three minutes to a persuing Marc Coma. Honda Brazil rider Jean Azevedo, was able to overtake too. Helder Rodrigues, who struggled to find his rhythm in the first part, was clearly more at ease in the second part of the special on the CRF450 RALLY and arrived in Diamantina in fourth place.

 Tomorrow the riders face the second part of the marathon stage with the start and finish at the very same camp. This circuit will include a 178.87 kilometre special, with a stage total of 204 kilometres.

Paulo Gonçalves: Today was a long and difficult day. I opened the track and rode well. It was a very difficult special with a lot of rocks, sharp curves, very mountainous, a lot of gravel and just like a trial. Some 20 kilometres from the finish, I made a mistake with the notes and took the wrong track, which cost me about three minutes. But I’m second in the overall, seven minutes behind Marc, and we still have two days left to attempt to make up the time and try and finish ahead.

Após etapa desafiadora com areia, carros da Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras estão na liderança

 Na primeira etapa totalmente realizada no Estado de Minas Gerais, as duplas da Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras, Guilherme Spinelli / Youssef Haddad e João Franciosi / Rafael Capoani, conseguiram bons resultados e lideram suas respectivas categorias no Rally dos Sertões 2014.

  "Foi um ótimo dia, com uma especial de 363 km. Enfrentamos serra e um trecho semelhante ao deserto do Japalão (PI), muito arenoso. Mantivemos a concentração e o ASX Racing mostrou um bom desempenho nas mais diversas condições", explica Guiga Spinelli, que lidera na classificação geral.
Além do relevo acidentado e do piso arenoso, a dupla enfrentou bastante tráfego durante a especial. "Conseguimos ultrapassar o carro que estava na nossa frente logo no começo da prova, mas perdemos muito tempo atrás dos UTVs", comenta Youssef Haddad.

 Com o tempo de 3h53min10, a dupla conquistou a segunda colocação na etapa, garantindo a liderança no Sertões 2014. "Continuamos na frente, mas os concorrentes estão muito rápidos. Vamos manter o ritmo forte e com foco na chegada a Belo Horizonte", ressalta o piloto.

 A bordo da L200 Triton SR, o piloto João Franciosi e navegador Rafael Capoani fizeram uma ótima prova, marcando o tempo de 4h08min20, o melhor da Protótipos T1. "Começamos com cuidado, mas conseguimos acelerar na etapa final. Ganhamos a categoria e cumprimos nossa meta do dia", comemora o piloto.

 Com isso, a dupla segue para a próxima etapa na liderança da categoria. "Hoje foi um dia cansativo, saímos bem cedo e chegamos tarde. Enfrentamos trechos de serra, fazenda e muita areia. Mas conseguimos colocar velocidade máxima no carro e recuperamos a primeira colocação", concluiu o navegador.

Quinta etapa - São Francisco / Diamantina (MG) - 28/8 

No quinto dia, a maior quilometragem do Rally dos Sertões 2014. A Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras enfrenta 645 quilômetros e a etapa Maratona, onde os veículos não poderão receber auxílio mecânico no fim do dia. As duplas têm apenas meia hora antes da largada para ajustar o que for preciso.

"A maratona deve ser considerada uma especial maior, com a soma de dois dias. Ou seja, é preciso se programar para um trecho bastante longo, sem manutenção da equipe", explica Youssef Haddad.

 No início da especial, um trecho de trial de aproximadamente cinco quilômetros em uma serra com muitas erosões e pedras. Em seguida, a prova fica rápida com muito cascalho, seguindo por um longo trecho de reflorestamento sinuoso com muita navegação. A partir daí, fica travada com muitas trilhas até a travessia do Rio Jequitinhonha. Deste trecho até o final, muitos mata-burros, lombas e estradas de fazenda.

Nova vitória de Paulo Gonçalves na quarta etapa do Rally dos Sertões

Campeão do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno voltou a recuperar tempo para o líder da classificação geral 

Paulo Gonçalves venceu nas duas rodas a quarta etapa do Rally dos Sertões, penúltima prova do Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno, onde defende o título alcançado na temporada de 2013. 

O piloto português foi o mais rápido no troço cronometrado desenhado entre Paracatu e São Francisco, que ascendeu aos 632,85 quilómetros de extensão.

“Hoje foi uma ‘especial’ muito boa, a maior do rali, com 360 quilómetros cronometrados, andei bastante bem, apenas no segundo setor me descontrolei um bocado e acabei por ter uma pequeníssima queda, perdi algum tempo, mas no último setor recuperei, ganhei a ‘especial’ e recuperei tempo. Falta meio rali, por isso vamos continuar concentrados, a atacar, a CRF 450 Rally está a funcionar de forma extraordinária e a equipa HRC tem feito um trabalho fantástico”, disse “Speedy” Gonçalves.

 Paulo Gonçalves, piloto oficial Honda, recuperou de novo hoje mais 1m15s para o espanhol Marc Coma, líder da classificação geral provisória no Brasil e na tabelam referente ao Campeonato do Mundo. Segundo da geral, o piloto de Esposende dista agora 2m04s da vitória final, estando ainda por disputar mais três etapas com destino a Belo Horizonte.

 A quinta etapa será em modo “maratona”, com os pilotos a ficarem inibidos de qualquer assistência mecânica por parte das equipas. O percurso, de São Francisco a Diamantina, será o maior da edição de 2014 do Rally dos Sertões, com um total de 645,44 quilómetros, dos quais 335,98 cronometrados.

Hélder Rodrigues em 3º lugar

Na etapa mais longa do Rally dos Sertões, que hoje ligou Paracatu a San Francisco, no Brasil, Hélder Rodrigues, aos comandos de uma Honda CRF450 Rally, realizou o 3º melhor tempo e aproximou-se dos lugares de pódio desta que é a quinta jornada do Campeonato do Mundo de Todo-o-Terreno.

 O piloto oficial do construtor japonês Honda, apoiado pela Red Bull e MEO, não iniciou da melhor forma o sector selectivo de 363,85 quilómetros, mas encetou uma excelente recuperação que o levou até ao terceiro lugar.

“A etapa de hoje foi a mais longa do rali, mais dura, mais difícil. Tivemos areia, pedra, navegação. Tive uma pequena falha no início, mas depois consegui encontrar o meu ritmo e voltar ao caminho e vim até ao fim sempre a tentar recuperar o tempo perdido e a tentar fazer uma boa etapa e acho que consegui”, referiu Hélder Rodrigues à chegada a San Francisco no final da etapa.

 Amanhã a etapa ligará San Francisco a Diamantina e terá de novo um sector selectivo com uma extensão superior a três centenas de quilómetros (335,98).

RUBEN FARIA SEGURO NA SEXTA POSIÇÃO

Ruben Faria cumpriu hoje a quarta etapa do Rally dos Sertões 2014 e manteve a sexta posição da classificação geral na prova. Aos comandos da sua KTM Rally 450 oficial o piloto de Olhão cumpriu em pleno os seus objectivos naquela que foi a mais longa especial cronometrada da prova com os seus 364 quilómetros de extensão num dia em que a caravana ligou Paracatu a São Francisco num total de 585 quilómetros.

 No final do longo dia o piloto algarvio foi o sétimo classificado depois de uma etapa em que mais uma vez não quis correr riscos que podem ser fatais a qualquer momento numa prova tão especial como é o Rally dos Sertões. As pistas mais sinuosas, com passagens por vedações e piso escorregadio são imagens de marca da prova e com um nível tão elevado entre os pilotos da frente tentar recuperar tempo perdido obriga assumir riscos que não interessam ao piloto nem à própria equipa. Neste quarto dia a caravana encontrou também algumas zonas com piso de areia (Jalapão mineiro) e após uma fase inicial muito rápida após a primeira centena de quilómetros as pistas ficam mais sinuosas e muito exigentes do ponto de vista da navegação.

  ‘Foi um dia longo, com muito pó e zonas tipicas dos Sertões que podem ser bastante traiçoeiras. Tal como ontem encontrei o meu ritmo e desenhei a minha corrida de acordo com as condições de piso, que está bastante seco e levanta bastante pó à passagem dos pilotos. No grupo da frente o andamento está muito elevado e é muito complicado recuperar, para o fazermos corremos riscos e uma travagem falhada ou uma saída de pista pode mesmo significar um ponto final na prova. Não é isso que procuro, quero estar na linha de chegada porque acima de tudo esta prova serve para preparar o Dakar. O quarto lugar está a cerca de cinco minutos, mas o principal objectivo é mesmo chegar ao final.’

 Palavras de Ruben Faria no final da quarta etapa da prova e antes daquele que será o mais longo dia da competição, mesmo se a especial agendada para amanhã é mais curta que a realizada hoje. Amanhã os pilotos terão uma etapa igualmente longa, entre São Francisco e Diamantina, com um total superior aos 645 quilómetros dos quais 336 serão cronometrados.

Paulo Gonçalves alcança vitória na etapa mais longa dos Sertões

Paulo Goncalves on the Honda CRF450 RALLY, battled to a notable victory in the fourth stage of the Rally dos Sertoes. The Portuguese rider imposed a formidable pace from the outset, clawing back precious minutes from the overall race leader. Helder Rodrigues, too, put in a convincing performance to conclude the Sertoes Rally's longest special in third place.

 The Rally dos Sertoes arrives at its mid-point with the race’s longest timed special, in a stage run over a variety of different types of track, amidst the distinctive reddish hue of the Brazilian terrain. Today’s stage, with a total of 363.85 kilometres, set off from Paracatu, and once the 125 kilometre link had been passed, it was pedal to the metal in the timed section - a very well-rounded special that included a narrow, hard and damaged track, that had been at the mercy of the rain and elements. The route also took in a fair amount of sand, as well as creeks and fords of varying water levels. The riders arrived in the town of San Francisco after a ferry-crossing, on the river bearing the same name; thus completing a total stage distance of 585.30 kilometres.

 It was first and third place for the two CRF450 RALLY riders, and the third time that Paulo Goncalves has marked the best time in the special so far in this Rally dos Sertoes. The Portuguese rider’s aim was clear - nothing less than victory – and not even a slight time-consuming error was able to dent the Honda rider’s continual will to win. In doing so, Goncalves cuts down the deficit with the leader by 1 minute 15 seconds leaving the Honda rider just two minutes adrift of Marc Coma.

 Helder Rodrigues performed well, taking third place and moving in on third place Brazilian Jean Azevedo, from the Honda Brazil team, who crossed the line in fourth on the day.

 Tomorrow sees the riders face the race’s marathon stage, the rules of which outlaw any kind of mechanical assistance at the end of the day, and where the bikes will be closed off in the parc fermé. As a consequence, preparation is of utmost importance, and likewise, it will be crucial to not run the machine too hard tomorrow.

Paulo Gonçalves: I had a great day today. I started from third place and I started to really push. Towards the middle of the stage I made a slight mistake, I momentarily lost concentration and lost a bit of time. I really forced it on the last part and made up time and won the stage. I’m really pleased for me, for the CRF450 RALLY and for all the rest of the HRC Team, which is doing a great job. We will continue to work hard over the next few days, as we are now at the half-way point.

Coma mantém liderança nos Sertões após Etapa 4

Red Bull KTM’s Marc Coma wrapped up the fourth stage of the Rally dos Sertoes on Wednesday just a fraction over one minute behind second placed Paolo Goncalves of Portugal to hang onto the overall lead by a margin of two minutes and four seconds.

In provisional third overall after Stage 3 is local Brazilian rider jean Azevedo while Coma’s three KTM factory teammates Jordi Viladoms (Spain), Ruben Faria (Portugal) and UK rider Sam Sunderland finished 5-7 in the stage. The KTM riders hold the same positions in the overall standings. Viladoms is currently 14 minutes 20 off the lead pace of Coma, Faria trails by 16.22 and Sunderland by 19.32. the KTM factory riders compete on the KTM 450 Rally machine

 As the stage winner on Tuesday it was again Coma who had to open the track on Wednesday and he said he was quite satisfied even though the race continued to be tight.

“This was not an easy stage,” Coma said. “It was the longest timed special of the rally but again we had a good rhythm. We had to sacrifice a bit of time while opening the track but that was to be expected. All indications are that this will be a race that will be decided on the last day so we must continue to concentrate hard because here it is very difficult to get an advantage.”

 On Wednesday riders were at the half way mark of the marathon stage and were not permitted any support from the teams before they reach Diamantina on Thursday.

 Coma is also a candidate for the title of world champion as the Rally dos Sertoes represent the fifth round of the six-round FIM World Cross Country Rally Championship. He went into Rd. 5 with a narrow six-point lead and is looking to extend that when the rally concludes on Saturday in Belo Horizonte.

Guiga Spinelli e Youssef Haddad mantêm a liderança na geral do Rally dos Sertões

Dupla da Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras chega ao Estado de Minas Gerais no primeiro lugar da geral; Franciosi e Capoani também seguem nas primeiras posições

 A bordo do ASX Racing, Guiga Spinelli/Youssef Haddad largaram de Catalão (GO) rumo ao Estado de Minas Gerais e mantiveram a liderança na edição 2014 do Rally dos Sertões. Com 02h36m30s na especial de 210km, a dupla segue em 1º na geral.

  "Fizemos ontem à noite algumas mudanças nos freios que não deram certo. Por isso, o terceiro tempo de hoje pode ser considerado um bom resultado, principalmente porque mantivemos a liderança na geral", explica Spinelli.

 Além da maior quilometragem, o trajeto desta terça-feira foi mais rápido do que as especiais anteriores. Com menos lombas, piso escorregadio e muitas mudanças de relevo, a etapa foi bastante técnica. "Foi uma prova completa, repleta de variáveis, que exigiu muito do piloto e do navegador. Com certeza a especial mais seletiva do Sertões até aqui ", comenta Youssef.

 Rafael Capoani, que corre ao lado de João Franciosi a bordo da L200 Triton SR, também achou a prova bastante técnica. "Devido ao tempo seco, o cascalho ficou ainda mais liso do que o normal. Mantivemos a concentração e nosso pensamento no rali como um todo. Conseguimos um resultado satisfatório", conta. A dupla conquistou o terceiro tempo, e está na vice-liderança da categoria Protótipos T1.

"A partir de agora que o rali começa a se definir de verdade. Com especiais mais longas, que exigem bastante cautela, o importante é sermos regulares. Ficar nas primeiras posições e terminar o rali é nossa estratégia", afirma Franciosi.

Quarta etapa - Paracatu (MG)/ São Francisco (MG)

 A Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras se despede do Estado de Goiás e chega a Minas Gerais para a quarta etapa da competição. "Amanhã é o primeiro dia realmente longo do Sertões. As características do rali mudam bastante. Em Minas, encontraremos piso arenoso, com menos lombas e referências bem diferentes", adianta Youssef.

 Passando por travessias de rios e estradas de piso duro, a Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras passará pela "Vereda da égua", local que inspirou Guimarães Rosa no clássico "Grande Sertão: Veredas". No último trecho a prova fica ainda mais rápida e sinuosa, seguindo assim até o final da especial. O deslocamento final terá até uma travessia da balsa, em direção a São Francisco (MG).

Paulo Gonçalves segura o segundo lugar provisório nos Sertões

Piloto português, Campeão do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno, abriu a “especial” e foi o primeiro a terminar 

Depois da vitória de ontem, Paulo Gonçalves fez hoje uma etapa “limpa” no quarto dia do Rally dos Sertões, penúltima prova do Campeonato do Mundo de Ralis Todo-o-Terreno, partindo e chegando na frente do pelotão “elitista”.

 A tirada de hoje contemplou 360,45 quilómetros de percurso, dos quais 209,86 foram a contra-relógio e onde Paulo Gonçalves registou o terceiro melhor tempo, perdendo assim algum tempo para o vencedor Marc Coma e para o brasileiro Jean Azevedo, segundo classificado, ambos a partirem no rota traçada pelo piloto português, atual Campeão do Mundo.

  “Hoje foi uma ‘especial’ mais longa, com 210 quilómetros, arranquei na frente, terminei na frente, abri toda a ‘especial’, sabia que iria perder algum tempo mas estou extremamente satisfeito com o desempenho da Honda CRF 450 Rally, funcionou tudo na perfeição. Amanhã tenho uma ótima posição de largada com uma ‘especial’ de 330 quilómetros, espero andar concentrado, não falhar e recuperar tempo por forma a estar novamente próximo da liderança”, afirmou o piloto de Esposende.

 Paulo Gonçalves segurou o segundo lugar da classificação geral provisória, estando ainda por disputar quatro etapas. A primeira delas ligará Paracatu a São Francisco num total de 585,30 quilómetros, cerca de 330 a cronómetro.

Piloto continua na luta pelas primeiras posições 

Na terceira etapa do Rally dos Sertões, que hoje ligou Catalão a Paracatu, Hélder Rodrigues, aos comandos de uma Honda CRF450 Rally, realizou o 4º melhor tempo no sector selectivo com 209,86 quilómetros e manteve idêntica posição na classificação geral desta que é a quinta jornada do Campeonato do Mundo de Todo-o-Terreno, a decorrer no Brasil.

 O piloto oficial do construtor japonês Honda, apoiado pela Red Bull e MEO, gastou mais 3m07s que Marc Coma, o mais rápido do dia, ficando a 27s do seu companheiro de equipa, Paulo Gonçalves, que o precedeu na classificação.

“A etapa de hoje foi a mais longa disputada até agora neste rali. A especial era bonita, com alguma navegação, pistas muito rápidas e um terreno muito escorregadio. Correu-me bem, fiz o quarto tempo e continuo na luta pela corrida”, referiu Hélder Rodrigues à chegada a Paracatu no final da etapa.

 Amanhã a etapa ligará Paracatu a San Francisco será ainda mais longa e os concorrentes terão pela frente um sector selectivo com 363,85 quilómetros.

RUBEN FARIA COM DIA LONGO EM SEGURANÇA

Após a segunda etapa do Rally dos Sertões ter sido encurtada em mais de metade do seu percurso original, Ruben Faria e todos os pilotos presentes na quinta prova do campeonato do mundo de Cross-Country e Rallies cumpriram hoje a primeira etapa realmente longa, com mais de 200 quilómetros de troço cronometrado na ligação entre Catalão e Paracatu, com a caravana a entrar igualmente no estado de Minas Gerais.

 À semelhança do que aconteceu nos dias anteriores a especial foi tipicamente brasileira, com muita de fazenda com vedações, portões, ribeiros e bastante pó, o que dificulta sempre a progressão dos pilotos. Sendo igualmente o primeiro dia realmente longo Ruben Faria imprimiu um ritmo constante mas sem correr demasiados riscos que possam prejudicar a segunda metade deste Rally dos Sertões 2014, conseguindo no final da jornada aproximar-se mesmo do quinto classificado.

  ‘Foi um dia em que a opção foi mesmo reduzir os riscos. Desde o início que imprimi um ritmo rápido mas seguro para não arriscar nenhuma queda que me atrasasse ou colocasse mesmo em perigo a minha continuidade na prova. Aqui qualquer erro paga-se caro e sei disso por experiência própria – Ruben Faria abandonou a prova em 2013 devido a uma queda – por isso não quis arriscar antes das duas especiais mais longas. Mesmo assim recuperei terreno para o quinto classificado, mas numa corrida em que as diferenças são tão curtas não é fácil dada a rapidez do lote de pilotos da frente. Mas estou bem fisicamente e penso que os próximos dois dias serão decisivos para todos.’ 

Amanhã Ruben Faria enfrenta a quarta etapa deste Rally dos Sertões 2014, com a ligação entre Paracatu e São Francisco a ditar mais de 363 quilómetros de especial, a mais longa da prova brasileira neste ano.

Paulo Gonçalves foi terceiro na etapa que antecede a mais longa especial dos Sertões

Reigning world champion Paulo Goncalves finished the third day of Brazil's Rally dos Sertoes with a third place finish, and holds on to second spot on the overall leader-board. Likewise, Helder Rodrigues performed well today, climbing one place in the overall standings.

 It had been a tricky day at the Rally dos Sertoes for Team HRC, who managed to turn out a positive result, with Paulo Goncalves riding a commendable stage after starting out from the front after yesterday’s victory. The Portuguese rider made it to the half-way point without being reached by his adversaries.

 Today’s stage, featuring a timed section of 209.86 kilometres over a mainly rocky course, but also included a lot of loose gravel and stretches of harder surface, which allowed the riders to raise the pace considerably. The ride also took in a lot of navigation as the route wound through rural villages, eucalyptus plantations, and included the speed checks which have become a constant feature in these races.

 Paulo Goncalves skilfully handled the Honda CRF450 RALLY, always attentive to not lose precious seconds, and concluded the race with the day’s third best time behind the race winner and Honda Brazil’s Jean Azevedo. 'Speedy' is consistent in the second place in the overall. Helder Rodrigues, Goncalves’ sidekick at Team HRC, rode a fine special, finishing in fourth place. ‘Estrelinha’ thus climbs a place on the overall leader-board.

 The two will be looking to better themselves in tomorrow’s fourth stage, between Paracatu and Sao Francisco, as the riders prepare to face 363.85 kilometres of timed special – the longest of the whole race- in a stage that totals 585 km.

Paulo Gonçalves: Today was a good day’s race. I started out from the front and finished ahead too, opening the track the whole day. I lost a little time, but that’s normal. Tomorrow, I start from third position and have 360 km to make up time. I hope to be able to ride hard without making mistakes to make up some time and get up to the front of the race.

X-Raid continua em busca de pontos para a Taça do Mundo na Polónia

• Four MINI ALL4 Racing vehicles to contest the Baja Poland 

• Eighth FIA World Cup round for Vladimir Vasilyev 

The Monster Energy X-raid Team and the X-raid Team currently have a busy schedule. This weekend, just two weeks after the Hungarian Baja, X-raid will be back in action: the battle for World Cup points will be continued in the Baja Poland, with Russian pairing Vladimir Vasilyev / Konstantin Zhiltsov planning to use this event for consolidating and possibly even extending their FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup lead. At the same time, Poland’s Martin Kaczmarski and his compatriot and Monster Energy X-raid Team driver, Krzysztof Holowczyc, also want to shine in front of their home crowd. The fourth MINI ALL4 Racing to contest the Baja Poland will be raced by the German pairing Stephan Schott / Holm Schmidt.

 In the first seven rounds of the season, Vasilyev acquired a 56-point lead over second-placed Nasser Al-Attiyah and a 72-point lead over Yazeed Al-Rajhi in third position. With another three rounds to go, there still are 120 points to be secured, 30 of the in the forthcoming Baja Poland. Just as it was the case in the Baja Aragon, Kaczmarski is going to contest the Baja Poland with his new Finnish navigator Tapio Suominen. In Spain, the ambitious Pole finished third behind his team mates Nani Roma and Orlando Terranova. Meanwhile, Holowczyc hopes to finally make an end to his streak of bad luck. He is going to contest his home event together with Frenchman Xavier Panseri who resides in Poland. And for Schott it’s the first appearance since his very fine fifth place in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.

 Other than the short Hungarian Baja the Baja Poland is a three-day event. On the first two days, the service park will be located in Szczecin. From there, the Baja Poland will be started on Friday with an eight-kilometre prologue. On Saturday, the teams will have to complete two 192-kilometre special stages and then, the service park will be moved to Drawsko Pomorskie for the Sunday action, featuring two 65-kilometre special stages.

  “We are entering the FIA World Cup home straight,” said Team Manager Sven Quandt. “There are another three events to be contested and the Baja Poland could result in a tendency. Vladimir has to stay calm and focused like in the last races. His rivals have to push and take risks if they want to try to close in on him.”

  “The Bajas are only short events but you have to be extremely focused, nevertheless,” said Vasilyev. “The tight, winding roads – often with trees, bushes or rocks on the roadside – are unforgiving. Just as we did in Spain and Hungary, we once again will focus on adding points to our tally.”

Overdrive Racing leva 5 Toyota's Hilux à Baja da Polónia

The Belgian Overdrive Racing Team continues its hectic August by entering five Toyota Hiluxes in this weekend’s Baja Poland, round eight of the 2014 FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.

 The three-day Polish event, which is centred in the town of Szczecin Bezrzecze is an important one for the Overdrive Team for three different reasons and takes place on August 29-31.

 Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and his French navigator Matthieu Baumel are chasing outright honours in this year’s FIA World Cup, the Polish Team Orlen quartet of Marek Dabrowski/Jacek Czachor and Adam Malysz/Rafal Marton will be hoping to reach the podium on their home round of the championship and the talented Dutchman Bernhard Ten Brinke joins the team for the first time with Belgian co-driver Tom Colsoul to begin their preparations for the 2015 Dakar Rally.

 Polish driver Tadeusz ‘Taddy’ Blażusiak drives the third Team Orlen car under the Overdrive Racing banner and is partnered by the Frenchman Edouard Boulanger. The 31-year-old Pole is an esteemed motorcycle rider in trials, enduro and endurocross and is a five-time winner of the Erzberg Rodeo, a four-time champion in the FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup and a winner of the AMA EnduroCross title on five occasions. He has also won four Moto X Enduro gold medals and a bronze at the X Games.

 The Overdrive Racing team is also taking part in this week’s 22nd Rally dos Sertões in Brazil with the local duo of Reinaldo Varela and Gustavo Gugelmin. The pair won the Prologue and the first of the selective sections on Sunday. This event reaches its conclusion on Saturday, August 30th.

 The team also plans to enter one Toyota Hilux in the exciting Great China Rally, which takes place at the start of September and has been organised by the Chinese in collaboration with former Dakar Rally chief organiser and consultant Hubert Auriol. The experienced Zhou Yong will drive the car. He has already taken part in several Dakar rallies.

 Al-Attiyah and Baumel sealed a dramatic last stage win in the Hungarian Baja two weeks ago and know that a second successive outright victory would give them a superb chance of overhauling Vladimir Vasilyev at the top of the FIA World Cup standings with two more rallies to follow in Morocco and Portugal. 

Dabrowski finished eighth two weeks ago after earlier delays and Malysz will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing outing in Hungary. Overdrive Racing’s team director Jean-Marc Fortin announced Ten Brinke was joining the team last month and the Dutchman is relishing his opportunity to work with the Belgian team in Poland.

  “This is an important rally for everyone connected with our team,” said Jean-Marc Fortin. “Nasser needs to keep the momentum going if he is to win the FIA World Cup for the second time and both Marek and Adam will want to perform well in front of their home supporters and hopefully, challenge for the podium. It is great to have Bernhard and Tom in the team and we wish them well and are confident that they will be competitive from the start. We also give a warm welcome to Taddy and Edouard and look forward to working with them this weekend.”

 In addition to FIA World Cup leader Vasilyev, the Overdrive Racing quartet face a fierce challenge from the likes of Czech driver Miroslav Zapletal and strong Polish rivals, Martin Kaczmarski and Krzysztof Holowczyc.

 In 2012, Overdrive Racing only fielded two cars in Poland for Szymon Ruta and the Hungarian Erik Korda, but the team enjoyed a superb result last year, with Russian Aleksandr Zheludov claiming the outright win from Dabrowski. Malysz finished fourth and a time penalty cost Nunzio Coffaro a potential second place and he reached the finish in fifth to give Overdrive Racing four cars in the top five.

 The competition gets underway on Friday evening with the start ceremony at the Sports and Entertainment Arena in Szczecin Bezrzecze at 17.30hrs (CET) and this will be followed by an 8.00km Prologue stage, starting at 18.00hrs.

 The first of the longer selective sections (Poligon Drawski 192.00km) gets underway at 08.00hrs on Saturday morning and this will be repeated from 14.00hrs in the afternoon. A shorter 65.00km selective section (Dobra) is run on two occasions on Sunday morning (09.15hrs) and early afternoon (13.15hrs) and the podium finish is planned for 15.30hrs. In a total route of 795.50km, there will be 522km of competition.

Guiga Spinelli e Youssef Haddad vencem e assumem a liderança no Rally dos Sertões

Duplas da Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras conseguem ótimo resultado na 2ª etapa da competição 

A Equipe Mitsubishi Petrobras conquistou a vitória em duas categorias na 2ª etapa do Rally dos Sertões. Em um dia que começou com uma mudança brusca no percurso, as duplas pisaram fundo e conseguiram um ótimo resultado na chegada a Catalão, onde fica a fábrica da Mitsubishi Motors Brasil.

  "Foi um dia muito especial para a Equipe como um todo. Vencemos em duas categorias e assumimos a liderança na geral. É o melhor resultado possível para o dia, embora continuemos focamos no resultado geral do rali", comemora Guiga Spinelli, que ao lado de Youssef Haddad, marcou o melhor tempo com o ASX Racing.

 Devido a problemas no trajeto, a organização reduziu a especial, de originalmente 202 km, para 67 km. Uma mudança que tornou a prova totalmente diferente. "Ficamos preocupados com essa mudança, já que as características da especial de hoje nos favoreciam", conta Youssef. "Decidimos assumir todos os riscos, e fazer uma prova mais agressiva. No final das contas, a nossa estratégia deu certo e conseguimos a vitória", completa.

 Além da extensão reduzida, o relevo dessa prova foi bastante diferente da primeira etapa. "Passamos por mais estradas, a prova foi bem rápida e sinuosa, com alguns saltos, mas nada comparado a ontem. Condições que eu gosto muito de pilotar", explica Guiga.

 A dupla João Franciosi e Raphael Capoani, a bordo da L200 Triton SR da Equipe, também fez uma ótima prova, conquistando o 1º lugar na categoria Protótipos T1. "Fizemos uma prova perfeita com pilotagem rápida e andando em um limite muito bom. Estávamos bem motivados. Desde o primeiro momento já saímos com o compromisso de buscar o melhor resultado na categoria e conseguimos", comemora o navegador Capoani.

 Para Franciosi, o resultado poderia ser ainda melhor. "Tivemos um imprevisto com um pneu furado faltando cinco quilômetros para o fim, senão teríamos terminado ainda melhor. Mas o importante é que chegamos bem e o carro melhorou bastante. O rali está só começando", conta o piloto.

  Vitória em casa

A vitória fica ainda mais especial por ter sido na cidade de Catalão (GO), onde fica a Fábrica da Mitsubishi Motors Brasil e o berço dos carros de competição. "Com certeza teve um sabor especial. Uma vitória ‘em casa’, com dois carros. Chegamos na terra da Mitsubishi com o melhor resultado possível", comemora o Guiga.

 Para Youssef, que já morou em Catalão, vencer na cidade é o ponto alto do Sertões até aqui. "Comecei a minha história com a Mitsubishi aqui na fábrica. Por isso, independente do resultado na geral, voltar para cá vencendo a etapa é uma sensação fantástica", se emociona o navegador.

 Amanhã a Equipe parte de Catalão e chega à cidade Paracatu, se despedindo do Estado de Goiás e entrando em Minas Gerais, em um dia duro e bem técnico para o ASX Racing e a L200 Triton SR.

  Terceira etapa - Catalão (GO)/ Paracatu (MG)

No terceiro dia, o Rally dos Sertões começa a aumentar a dificuldade, com um trecho de 360 quilômetros. A especial começa com piso bom e as velocidades variando entre média e alta, alternando trechos de piçarra com estradas de cascalho. A partir da metade do dia, a especial começa a ficar travada e sinuosa com estradas de fazenda e trilhas. O último terço é em uma plantação de eucaliptos com muitas curvas e exigirá atenção dos navegadores.
